Snorkeling in Perhentian

Assalamualaikum everyone!

I had a wonderful raya weekend though I didn't go back to KL to continue the celebration with my family.

Since a really really good friend is leaving for KL for a transfer, they've decided to have a get-away trip to Perhentian. The last time I went there was in July 2011 with a Korean lady I met on the bus on my way back home from the airport. (Before Perhentian + In Perhentian post)

Paid RM250 for return transportation Kerteh-Besut with my car, boat Perhentian-Jeti Besut (around RM70), one night stay in Ombak (room of 4, or 2), breakfast at Ombak, Snorkeling trip by Ombak (RM35 like that), and underwater camera rent (RM100 per group if I'm not mistaken). All in all, it was worth it!

This time, since we're already in Terengganu, we had to drive from Kerteh the night before at around 9:30pm and stayed overnight in Kuala Terengganu at another friend's family place. While another group departs from Kerteh at 3:00am the next morning to catch the boat from Jeti Besut at 9:00am.

On Friday, we woke up at 5:00am and went to pray Subuh at the nearby Masjid on the way to Besut. I was shocked to see that the huge Masjid's parking spot was nearly full!

There were about 90 ladies there with 6 saf, what more the men?

Since we have to catch the boat, we used the highway to the Jeti Pulau Perhentian in Besut. Drove so fast, thank goodness it was really in the morning and there were no cars on the road. Just probably few along the way.

Had nasi lemak (a must!) before departing, and make sure to get a big bottle or two of mineral water at the Jeti Besut. Since we went to the small island, there's not many shops there and a bottle could cost you triple the price.

We were told that the boat should only fit 13 passengers, and their names should be listed properly and signed by the officer at the exit.

I guess not.

The driver 'singgah' somewhere and picked another 4-5 locals, and went to the other end of the jeti to pick up 3 more of our friends who did not make it in the "13 list".

The boat was definitely too fast as if it was about to fly off, and the non-13 list passengers did not have their life vest on. So much for HSE (Health, Safety and Environment).

Oh well, we survived the 30+ mins boat ride to the island and went to Ombak Chalet.

Since check-in is at 3pm, we changed, and went straight for snorkeling.

It was a tremendously amazing!! Enjoyed it so much!!

It took me 2 years to go do it again, and now I just can't wait another 2 months to go to Redang in October!

The last time I went, I can only float, and I panicked because a lot of sea water got into my googles and I couldn't see much.

This time around, thanks to that weekly swimming session in KGRP (Kelab Golf Rantau Petronas) in front of my office, I could actually swim and dive into the sea without any equipments (though I hold on to my life-vest just incase the tide gets stronger which it did and I had to hold on to my friends who was wearing them). Plus, the googles Ombak provided us was simply tip-top quality.

Went straight down to the turtle (penyu) on the sea-bed and almost die of pressure and loss of breath. Haha.

Too bad the photographer pressed "OFF" instead of the shooting button, and I was too tired to go back into the sea-bed for another photo. (It will be my own story of failure and I will remember you Mr. Turtle. When I come back again, I promise I'd hold my breath for at least 1 minute. I'll practice okay? ;) At least I managed to get a photo when Mr. Turtle went up for air. Good enough I guess.

Lot's of success story this time around.

I was super close to a huge leopard-skin eel, and the sharks!

I only swam around the tower last time. Though I had a great time playing around feeding the fishes, I thought I must give it a go. A jump.

This time around. I must.

I am scared of heights, my heart was going to explode and even though they've counted until 3 and I was ready to jump, I just went back in and sat on the cliff.

"Impossible. This is too scary"

"But wait. Going down by the stairs is much more 'memalukan', I rather jump"

I cursed. I did.

So, I finally jumped.

"Hey, that was FUN!!"

I went back for another jump. Hahaha. Oh Nadiah... ^^"

So that was rather a short story from my snorkeling experience and I'm glad I overcome all my fears this time.

Not in my life I've jump from that height, swim that deep below, and kept my breath that long.

I guess every trip will change you somehow.

To be honest, I was not close with this group of people that I went with. Some I never talked to, never knew their names, and those that I was really scared of because they had a creepy look in their eyes like they're going to eat me alive. (The girl that were supposed to go for us to celebrate had to cancel last minute). I thought that I'd be going for my worst get-away ever.

Now I see them in the office, I'd be like, "Hey dude!! Hey womaaaannn!!" making daily-life at the office means so much more knowing how crazy we've become with each other.

Ah.. I'm blessed.

*Oh, the last time I said that aboutmy new founded awesome-office-mate-friend, we had a 3rd World War for nearly 4 months. har-har.

More photos of the trip can be seen here (Facebook Album).

Signing out with love for everyone.

Selamat Hari Raya.

Assalamualaikum. <3 font="">

*Oh hey. I haven't told you how my Raya went. XD
We'll see la when I'm rajin kayh. We literally had a *blast*.

The Journey

Begini ceritanya...

I left home at 9 something. After about 10 minutes of walking and waiting for the bus, I've decided to take the cab instead...and paid RM5 for a 5minutes journey.

After waiting nearly 15-20minutes at the KTM Segambut (and paid RM1), they announced that the next train is NOT gonna arrive in at least 40minutes. x-x" I can't wait that long.

In the hot nearly-midday, I walked across the highway  tryna catch a cab from the other side (don't ever do this! VERY DANGEROUS!). I saw a U7 bus coming . I have no idea what U7 meant, and where is it heading to, but seriously, it doesn't matter. =P Naik saja!

Went all the way to Sentul, Chow Kit, Sogo, Dataran Merdeka, and finally, Bangkok Bank (which what I now know, route U7 ). From there, walked a bit to LRT Masjid Jamek.

Wait, did I tell you where I'm going?
Ehehe..

I know the place that I want to go to is in Jalan Ampang, so I took the one heading for Ampang.

 The problem is;
How many lines are they and where are they heading to and what stations are there?!!

Why?
Because there's not a single map of the lines on the platform!

So, considering someone in a rush like me..

PLEASE PUT A MAP OF  THE LINES' STATION ON THE PLATFORM.
(Kelana Jaya's line seems to have this)

PLEASE SHOW OTHER LINE'S ROUTE AS WELL INSIDE THE TRAIN.

To those who thinks it's a common sense that someone should know all about these lines by now, well it's not. Don't assume that everyone is a frequent user of the trains here.

Since I am supposed to head to Ampang, I took the Ampang line because I couldn't find a BIG, PROPER ROUTE MAP even around the ticketing area. T-T" (Ada tu ada, tapi keciknya, kesian mokcik-mokcik nak carik stesen)

Sangat tak user friendly. (cries) hangpa yang buat sistem naik dak tren?

Anyway, going from Masjid Jamek, I realized that I am going far far away from KLCC(heading to Pudu dah!) and decided to go back to Masjid Jamek and figure out what OTHER LRT LINES there are - and where do they go to sebab its not written anywhere in the platform. Since the other side is going to Sultan Ismail.. I decided to get down from there (paid about RM2.50), walked about looonggg minutes of forever - and finally ended the crazy trip by taking a cab; to Wisma MCA Jalan Ampang (RM 6).

Dari kedekut nak naik cab dari rumah.. Inilah padahnya. [sebenarnya, saya sangat2 tak gemor naik cab NIH. Takut! cume memikirkan apa salahnya bagi pokcik2 teksi duit makan lebih]

11:30am. I am finally here. at the US Visa Collection Center, and I'm done  in less than 10. =$

12:00pm Off to Shah Alam by KTM.

Kerana bonda tak beli lagi baju raya dan kuih-muih raya, gagahkan jugaklah pergi sampai Shah Alam. N memang rasa nak  deman. My nose is running like a broken pipe; sakit kepala, and only had 15 minutes of sleep last night; gara2 nak mencari Lailatul Qadr, tapi sempat lagi pegi mamak kejap, tengok movie kat YouTube kejap.. X)

(complaints and ways to improve KTM will come in a different post. LoLs yeah, I do complaint a lot; since I won't settle down in a terrible fact of life)

A lady in KTM once told me,
"Things are terrible, but face the fact, you're not in Japan!"

and I replied, "Why must I face the terrible fact? I rather change it".

Ok-ok. Officially going to a fever state. Dah batuk-batuk and muntah-muntah. Hope it's not for long.

Alhamdulillah

After being back in Kuala Lumpur for about a month and a half now, I can prolly say that events and incidents happened this time is pretty different from what I had in the previous years of summer vacation. It's my last vacation before I graduate. How time flies.

1.Projek Kalsom 17 (11-15 July 2011 )

Held in Malacca Fruit Farm, Melaka. I applied to be one of the facilitator for this program, and Alhamdulillah, it's a one unique experience that I shall treasure. Made a LOT of new friends, and insyaAllah I will be serving the next committee - Projek Kalsom 18, next year in Sarawak as a Publicity Manager.

"Projek Kalsom is a collaborative project between Kelab Kalsom and United Kingdom and Eire Council for Malaysian Students (UKEC). It is a motivational programme for Form 4 students who have excelled in their studies but come from less fortunate backgrounds. It is run by Malaysian students enrolled in universities in the United Kingdom and Ireland, but students from other universities are also welcomed to join as volunteers. The programme runs approximately one week." -

"K stands for Kalsom"

2. KONSISTEN 2011 (10-14 August 2011)

My second time to attend the international student convention by Ikram. This is the only picture that I have, telling me that I went there. But there is not a single picture that can explain my feelings when I was there; because I took no picture and none of me. I see everyone in my heart. I feel their presence even though I have no idea who they are. Not even their name.

When we pray together side by side, I know I can rely on them. Even with a world-sized burden on my shoulder. This is the first (I hope there's a next next..) program that I just didn't fell asleep during any talk. MasyaAllah. But I fainted inside the masjid instead. xD

I see the family is getting bigger each year. With faces that I've seen 2-3-4 years ago, and go.. "I know you...!" and new faces, asking "Where are you from...?"to, "Oh.. you're the one who visited xxx (Jordan, Egypt, Jakarta etc..)"

I wont be a 'mahasiswa' anymore next year, but I will insyaAllah be a part of this again.

3. KILAT 2011 (15-17 August 2011)

Kursus Intensif Lingkaran Asia Timur@ KILAT. A gathering of students who are studying in China, Korea and Japan. Saya hanya menjadi penyibuk menambah bilangan ahli majlis saja. ^-^"

------

Another 9 more days of Ramadhan. I feel like I am running as fast as I can, but I feel like there's a junction infront, or a roadblock, or just a small rock that I might stumble upon. By hook or by crook, I must get there. InsyaAllah.

I am holding on to that rope, but I feel like it's getting loose. I can feel that you're letting go.
Maybe I am holding on to the wrong rope.  Ya Allah, I will hold on.

Ramadhan Mubarak.

In Perhentian!!

We went to Hentian Putra bus station (besides PWTC) to go to the East Coast area.

The bus to Jeti Kuala Besut (where the boat to Pulau Perhentian leaves) cost us RM 40, and we departed at 9:30pm to arrive in Besut at 5:30am. (If you get Mahligai Bus like we did, it will stop right in front of the Jeti place)

So-Young's first Nasi Lemak and Roti Canai. A must have in Malaysia. Eat up before getting to the island. It's cheaper to have breakfast in the mainland first.

We were lucky to get to know Kak Ita that later bought our boat tickets  (return tix for RM 70), and our snorkeling voucher (5 snorkeling spots for RM 40) . She told us about the differences between the Big and Small Perhentian Island, where the small one is better for backpackers as they have a wide choice of chalets and dormitories. Around this time of year (summer holiday  in North Hemisphere countries), you have to pre-book your stay or else you have to camp out on your own. We were lucky to have one room in Aubay Chalet (in Corey Bay) since we just crash the place without any reservation.

There are other places as well ( a room with 2 beds or a queen size bed),

  • Senja Bay (they didn't have any rooms last time) - RM 100 per night with breakfast, 24 hours electricity, and Free Wi-Fi.
  • Aubay Chalet (our chalet) - RM 80 per night, 12 hours electricity, VERY SUPER near to the beach (facing sunset) and very friendly staffs.
  • Amelia Chalet - RM50 per night.
Others; there's so many other chalets out there, but it really depends on the availability. It ranges from RM15~ (for a dormitory placed further inside the jungle + the toilet and shower is outside and you have to share it with others if you don't really care it's okay).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We just spend the whole day of our first day reading books and I was reading all of my notes to write my report... It was relaxing, but we were sweating hot since  the electricity only work after 7pm. T-T"

Around 5pm, we decided to take a look at the Long Beach (about 10 mins of walking in the jungle - there's a proper path) and it was just beautiful!! But yeah, I was the odd one out since there were many many mat salleh and perasantan mat salleh celups.

For dinner, we went to Amelia Restaurant has this BBQ set that cost RM15 including a small glass of lychee juice. Around the island, most drinks will cost about RM3 and a plate of a proper food will be around RM 8- RM 10. It's really easy to allocate your budget if you know how much things cost.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You should bring 2-3 big bottles of mineral water, and a loaf or two of bread. Especially once you go swimming or snorkeling, you'd be starving in an instance. Just bring something to munch with you on the boat (when you go for snorkeling). Nuts would be nice.

Always the odd one out wherever I go.

Snorkeling is something that you just HAVE to do when you're in Perhentian. It really doesn't matter if you can swim or not! You'll be wearing the life vest, the snorkeling equipment and the half-fin(?)- the thing that makes you feel like a fish (or a mermaid!).

Our 5 snorkeling spots that I still remember,
  •  1: Fish n Corals- MasyaAllah....... The fishes are just beautiful. There's like millions of them swimming around you. If only I had bread with me which I kinda did but totally freaked  out when they were like thousand of them swarming me. xP
  •  2: Shark Point
 - saw a number of sharks swimming around me.
 - but totally freaked out when I saw a group of jelly fish and went straight back to the boat.. T-T" ( I had a horrible experience with them last time)
  •  3: Penyuuuu!!
 - just follow the Penyuuuu and swim beside it! You can touch it if it comes to the surface, and mine DID!!
 - it was way huge than I thought it would be.

[lunch break in a village nearby]

  •  4: Light House (breath taking view of the corals!!)
 - there's this small "Christmas Tree" that acts like daun semalu when you touch them.
 - Saw a Nemo family. A big one and a smaaaaall one playing hide and seek!
 - the differences in the layer of the water when suddenly you can feel it being really warm, or chilling cold.
  •  5: Romantic Beach  (I love this place!!)

 - where I took my life-vest off and it felt really good to just swim on my own)
 - shallow water about 5 metres deep. The water was crystal clear!
 - played with gamat. Ewwwwwww =X
 - mencari (in search of) octopus!  and found one! and the way they 'blurted' their ink was just memorable!
 - sand white and transparent fishes playing at your feet.^-^
 - saw more sharks!! and more Nemo families!!

 # I panicked when my goggle got a bit foggy inside, and I swallowed too much of sea water when I laugh.

## I realized that when I'm panic or nervous, I laugh a lot. A LOT.

### When I was bitten by a snake back in Melaka, I was laughing all the way to the hospital at the back of the ambulance. and the paramedics got really worried and confused T-T"

#### I can't help but to laugh (or smile) if I'm being confronted - pastu they won't take me seriously. (syoganainaa..)

I guess that's about it.

All in all, I hang out with a Japanese guy, 2 Korean ladies that went there for scuba class (both on their own), my Korean mate (So-Young), Steven the hamsap scuba instructor and Hafiz one of the beach boys.

I would go back for more. I realize that I love traveling and SNORKELING!!

next stop, Red Sea!

Before Perhentian..

Just because I am still in Perhentian (with nothing to do >_<)  and the Internet that our Korean chalet mate bought last night is still working, I'm gonna go ahead and write them post about my trip this time.

The jeti serves as a place where the tourist just hang around to watch the sunset, and the water is just so clear you can see every single thing inside the water. I can't imagine if they say that the Red Sea is way better than this. SubhanAllah, MashaAllah. I guess there's still so many things out there yet to be discovered!

Well, I shall make this post a bit detailed for the first time ever (in this blog) by explaining things that one should know to travel this path (if you're interested). I wanted to do the same when I went for my Arab trip, but as you've already know.. my phone decided to go haywire and that was it. An experience left to be unshared.

Excusez-moi pour the long introduction. =)

Actually, when I arrived in LCCT about 2 weeks ago, I met a Korean on her way to KL. I said, "annyong!"  to her first, and the next thing I knw, she was speaking korean to me! Unfortunately I can't speak Korean (Oh I wish I could..), but I was surprised to know that she can speak Japanese! She lived in Japan for 8 years, and now she's traveling the world for a year and Malaysia is her first stop!

She wanted to go to Cameron Highland for a week and I had to head to Melaka for my Project Kalsom 17 event. She said that her next stop is Perhentian, and I said, we shall go together then!

And that's how the journey starts..

.....

As soon as she got back from Cameron Highland, she stayed at my apartment for 2 nights, had a luxurious Traditional Malay Lunch at Kelantan Delights in Subang, met my seniors, friends and family and it was nice that she gets along well with all the havoc of my daily life as a nanny and a driver.

The appetizer!

Nasi Tumpang in Kelantan Delights. (Sangat sedap!!)

Kelantan dessert. Ouh2.. there's Lompat Tikam! Which means, Jump and Stab! ^-^

She even attended my father's colleague's daughter's wedding in J.W. Mariott ( yes, I told her that it was not a normal traditional  wedding event where most of the time they'll have it in a community place or hall instead of a hotel).

#I told my dad, I really hate the awkwardness of having so many people at my wedding (in the future of course) and I want to have an eco-no-money family ambience event at home where my brother would play his guitar with his friends and I know all of my guest.

## hahaha.. I know I'm so out of topic here.

Let's go back. Now! In a different post of course.

To be continued...

Pekasam. ^-^

Assalamualaikum y'all!

Haha.. bunyi macam hip hop artis dah. =)

I had this post for more than a month now. Upload gambar siap-siap, pastu tinggal buat draft. Sampai bila la kan tak type anything. Biasalah, internet kat Malaysia yang hebat, aktiviti kekeluargaan yang ketat, duty-duty awam seperti menjadi pemandu tanpa gaji dan macam-macam lagi peer presure yang perlu dikendali, that's all the distraction that the world can provide you with.

(My sister, before I went to OBS)

Right after my arab trip, (which I have not post them pictures yet!) I had to go through OBS for a week, and once I got back, I saw a picture of my little sister in my camera and I was like, who could have done this to her!

She looks sad, and restless!

 Yes, chicken pox.
This is actually my first time having to take care of  someone with chicken-pox. She got that 'thing' all over her body, even on her scalp! (like, eww.. haha..) When all my brothers had theirs, I was all the way here, in Japan. So, I really had no idea how to handle this. She can't go to school or nursery. Obviously, she had to stay at home, and I have to make sure she doesn't go and peel her skin off!

It's unusual to have sick kid in the house. It's like, someone ate all the fun out!

But after about a week or so, her face slowly gets better, but her hands and feet were full of SCARS! It was really hard to keep her hands from doing anything to the chicken-pox. She'll go and kopek everything!

( Cleaner face, but still moody and unfriendly)
I miss the active little girl jumping here and there!

This is when I left her back at home. Love to look at that smile!

omake-des!

plus one more. =)

OBS Gratitude

Alhamdulillah, 7 days of OBS are finally over. One trully great experience that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

There, I learn not to cry when I'm in need of someone to lean on to.
There, I learn not to fall into emotions when things go wrong.
There, I learn not to be exhiled when I am not being need of.
There, I learn not to quit when they tell me I can't.
There, I learn to stand up for myself when I'm not being understood.

There, there's no limit to my strengh.
There, there's no pain that I can't bear.
There, there's no time that I waste.

Alhamdulillah, I feel Your presence every second I breath. Every paddle that I made, is filled with your rememberance. Every glance to the sea, and to the mountains around me reminded me how beautiful You've created everything around me.

When I was reading Your words by the beach, You told me that;

2:115 To Allah belong the east and the West: Whithersoever ye turn, there is the presence of Allah. For Allah is all-Pervading, all-Knowing.

Alhamdulillah, thanks to You. I have survived here today all because of You. Ya Allah, how unfortunate it is for those who does not feel Your presence in their heart.

Alhamdulillah, You know things better than I do.
Astaghfirullah, forgive me for being upset not getting what I thought I need. You gave me something better. Much much better. I get to know a person for who he is. Not for what they say he is.

You've motivated me with the violent wave that You've sent, and the heavy rain that You've poured. You've presevered me with a great motivation to not pee myself in the kayak and paddle as fast as I could to the nearest shore. *^_^* and for that they've called me the iron-woman. Oh-no.

Whaling was awesome, thanks to the wind that You've sent so that we wont have to paddle the 5kilos paddle for 5 hours straight. I was sailing, and almost fell into the sea. Putting up the sail was fun, but pulling the anchor almost made me lost my neck. Heavy. Alhamdulillah, I managed. All the knots that I had to remember to make sure that the front sail was nicely secured, and the anchor knots and so many many more. Alhamdulillah, everything went well.

You are the best of all planners. Last but not least, I ended up lying in the medical bay for the rest of the last day, not being able to move even an inch. You've tested me with the greatest pain I've ever had to endure since the first day I've started kayak. The first time in my life that I did'nt complaint about any of my PMS pain yet it's the most painful that You had ever gave me. Astagfirullah, may all the pain cleanses my sins away.  I thought I'd fainted on the first expedition (which I did in the woods on the last day of the second expediton, all by myself- but You've protect me all the way through, Alhamdulillah).

You had Your own special ways, Allah. To reach out to me, to tell me things I did'nt know about myself, about You.

Alhamdulillah, SubhanAllah, Allahuakbar.

Negaraku. bukan Negarakuku

Belum setahun pun saya tinggalkan Malaysia, tapi selalu saja rasa nak balik. Mungkin sebab baru lagi. Baru saja tadi tengok Majalah 3 dekat worldip.tv. Tajuk utama; musim durian. Demokrasi bersuara katanya.. Tak tahu lah, setahu saya, 'You cant see the picture when you're inside the frame' memberikan gambaran yang lain. Saya suka hidup berbilang kaum. Mengapa tidak kamu? "Sesuatu yang kita semua patut banggakan." Saya, sentiasa akan mencintai tanah tumpah darah saya. Agama saya. Bahasa saya. Adat saya. Negara saya. "Selamat Menyambut Hari Kemerdekaan Malaysia ke-50!"
